Note: Firewall leak tests must be allowed to execute in order to test the protection afforded by the firewall. If the test cannot be executed then, obviously, the tester is not able to evaluate the firewall's ability to block the outgoing connection attempt. For example, signature based detection in the AV component of an application may detect a particular test as a Trojan - blocking its execution simply because that particular signature is on its blacklist. This does not provide any indication of protection against the technique that the test uses – and a piece of malware using the same technique but with an unknown/non-blacklisted signature may well be successful. Our testers will try to make an exception in order to bypass signature blacklisting and run the test, but if this is impossible then we record a straight fail.
